A DEAL struck between Alderney and the ferry company Manche Iles Express could provide a major boost to the Island's economy.
Manche Iles Express have already announced increased scheduled rotations next year from a dozen to 17 for 2020, but have now added seven more direct crossings from France.
The revised sailings will mean a total of 13 rotations direct to Alderney from France and another 11 via Guernsey.
They will allow visitors the chance to enjoy overnight and four or six-night visits to Alderney and also create additional opportunities for people from Alderney to visit Normandy.
The States' Policy & Finance Committee has agreed to subsidise the Manche Iles Alderney sailings up to a maximum of £10,000, but they may not cost a penny if the company reaches break-even passenger numbers.
For example, the Granville's capacity is 240 passengers with a break-even figure of 130 so it a sailing does not achieve that number, Alderney would pay the ticket value of the shortfall at the end of the season..
If all rotations average 180 passengers, Alderney could welcome 4,320 visitors without triggering the subsidy, compared with the 4,300 passengers who used the Little Ferry this year on a service the States subsidised to the tune of £98,000.
Visit Alderney is to work closely with Manche Iles Express to market the Island in France.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
