Is Alderney ready for a baby boom?

Posted Tue 15th March 2016 at 11:17

Since at least 2008, the advent of a Leap Year has meant a hop in the Alderney birth rate.

In 2008 12 babies were born and in 2012 the tally sprang up to 13, with six, nine and five babies born in the intervening years.

But 2016 has seen the baby rate bounce once again - with a whopping 17 babies either already born or due to make an appearance.

The figure is almost double the number of babies born last year - which stood at around nine.

Is Alderney ready for such an onslaught?
